It’s been only a decade since they came into existence, but with the way mobile phone ring tones are continuing unabated, to leave their signature tunes all across the globe; they seem to be anything but just a fad.

Having started off in its most basic and crudest form in Finland, mobile phone ring tones today, according to reports, are generating more than $ 4 billion in annual worldwide revenues. And with the up gradation of technology at their disposal mobile phone ring tones are being constantly morphed into an exciting ‘new’ rage day in and day out.

As per reports, the Asian market by far remains within the strong hold of novel mobile phone ring tones for several reasons. South – East Asian music artistes, enjoy immense popularity in their home countries largely owing to the fact that they are non – English speaking nations and therefore their audiences are restricted to those within their home country and the relatively small Diaspora spread across the globe. With ’sing tones’ having been touted as the latest avatar of ring tones, these have undoubtedly found a large fan following in countries such as Japan, which according to researchers is supposed to be the land of origin for Karaoke. Sing tones allow the user to record his or her voice to a popular soundtrack and tune in automatically to sound good with the help of available software. This can later be downloaded onto the user’s mobile phone and then subsequently shared with others.

India, in the South – Asian sub – continent, is home to the burgeoning Bollywood industry and only naturally lends itself to being an extremely lucrative opportunity for mobile phone ring tones downloads. Experts say that the market for value added services for mobile phones stands at $125 million and in itself accounts for about 20 per cent of the revenue earned by mobile phone operators. Within this value added services segment, ring tones account for roughly 80 per cent of the segment, thereby being the largest player. Along with the popular Bollywood movies’ sound tracks, there are several other budding artistes whose compositions are a favourite for mobile phone ring tones. These artistes along with the music composers for Bollywood films have taken to specifically composing ring tones for mobile phones and there is enough and more debate with regards to the demand of these professionals for an additional payment of fees for composing ring tones and licensing them to mobile phone operators. The widespread Indian Diaspora are also made available these ring tones through licensing arrangements made by the producers with off – shore distributors for an already agreed upon fee. Industry experts peg this profit share on a 50 – 50 basis largely. Although India is not an English speaking nation, the only advantage it has against its South – East Asian counterparts is that with the popularity of the Bollywood industry lot of United Kingdom based artistes such as Dr. Dre, Rishi Rich, Sean, et al have taken to incorporating snippets of some famous tracks into their compositions thereby leading to its widespread presence and acceptance.

Speaking of United Kingdom that seems to be another region that experts say is a popular hot spot for mobile phone ring tones, with the trend of ring tone DJ’s seriously catching up with its inhabitants. Not to mention the presence of local awards for the best ring tone compositions and the equivalent of ‘Top Ten Chartbusters’ list. Now, that is one country that surely has a lot of music artistes and ring tone composers humming all the way to the bank!

ZeeBuddy asked:

Bollywood has faced a number of upheavals and transformations, but one remarkable change of the recent times is the experimentation with techniques and themes.

The former years had a lot of restrictions in terms of presentation, handling and theme of the movie from the director’s point of view. They could not take up challenging horror or action sequences because it demanded special effects, the result was a gapingly scant collection of horror flicks, and in the name of action the viewers had to do with adoring Dharmendra’s power-packed fists that floored the villains in one thunderous punch with the roar: “Kuttey! Mein tera khoon pee jaunga!!! (the pun was unintentional). There were some potential substitutes, too, like Dara Singh, who promised some drum-centric music enhanced (read overshadowed) action sequences, where an army of goons was hurled about in all directions by him. Then we had Amitabh Bachchan in ‘Angry Young Man’ avatar and then the action mantle fell on Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan, Suniel Shetty, and Akshay Kumar. With time, action sequences became considerably better, with slow-motion punches adding to the overall action effect of the fist-power.

In the same era, Hollywood churned out a hair-raising thriller-horror ‘The Wind’ (1987). This particular movie became hugely popular due to the sheer simplicity with which the horror was built-up. It was chilling, scary, violent and gripping. It used no effects other than some high voltage fans to create the windstorm in a deserted village. And its background music was self-effacing, yet adding to the chill. A novelist (Meg Foster) retires to a crumbling villa in a village to complete her book, and is hounded by the caretaker who has a fancy of killing with a scyth – pretty dumb and clichéd storyline. No extraordinary props, no high-tech, hard-to-get gadgets that were a dream for our Bollywood procurers. We didn’t, but Nico Mastorakis created a timeless and ingenious example of making viewers start in dread. It was frightening for an adult then; it still is for his son now.

Recently, we have seen an explosion of new age technologies giving our cinema an unusually updated look. (They have even mastered ‘The Matrix’ 3-D effect after copying it in ‘n’ number of movies!). ‘Drona’, ‘Krrish’, ‘A love Story-2050’ are all effects-based flicks, using the latest technologies. Even animation has reached its adolescence and full time films like ‘Roadside Romeo’ are at par with regular feature films. Sometimes the animated characters look plastic, but new-age children are used to it so they don’t mind much. After all, they practically live in a world overflowing with polymer.

Of course, there has never been a dearth of romances in Bollywood. (The audience get a chance to let their imagination run amock fuelling bollywood gossip). They actually started with a good guy in white kurta-pyjama (not the night-dress, it was the over-loose dress of those times!) serenading his lady love, looking at the metaphoric moon, without a glance at that well made-up, simpering, dupatta-biting lass standing beside him. That was love. Then they held hands and danced, then they hid behind trees in gardens (with a close-up of two flowers!), then they let the lass’ dupatta slip, then it disappeared altogether. But now our directors have a wide variety of romantic options from bed-scenes to kisses landing smack on the mouths. Almost all versions of romance seem to have been exploited in the present cinematic period, but we can always expect from creative directors who always discover a new kind of romantic instance for youngsters to moon about.

Having used up the available expected lot of genre, Indian cinema is also extending shoots towards parallel cinema. Out of league movies are rising in number, and doing good despite targeting a niche-audience. The success-secret is the capitalistic metropolitan approach of distributors. They make a movie for one segment of audience; take the urban thinking ones. Then they release it only in PVRs, multiplexes that charge a ten to twenty percent more than the small-town halls. They earn as much on selling a hundred tickets as they would in a small place selling a thousand. The film is a success – the trend becomes popular. And ‘Bheja Fry’, ‘Slumdog Millioanaire’ and ‘A Wednesday’ are a rage!

Talking of ‘A Wednesday’, the horrifying attacks in Mumbai, and before that the sporadic incidents across the country have sent shock waves through Bollywood. The upper class has been hit this time, so, fight against terrorism has spread across all the sections of society. Only a few days have passed, and the inspiration has hit the scriptwriters and filmmakers hard. In a recent Bollywood news update, twenty titles based on the Mumbai attacks have been submitted for approval. Another burst of trend changers? Welcome to contemporary Bollywood!

Hipakistan Articles

Sajjad Haider asked:

HiPakistan Articles advice on how to write an effective article, including information on layout, style, and how to make an article clear, precise and relevant to the reader.

Layout:

A good article start with introduction, continues with a clear structure, and end with standard appendices such as references and related articles. So layout matters for a good article.

Paragraphs:

Paragraphs should be short enough for readability, but long enough to develop an idea. Overly long paragraphs should be split up, as long as the cousin paragraphs keep the idea in focus. Beginning with a “bridge” or “transition” statement such as “Other examples abound” may be helpful.

One-sentence paragraphs are unusually emphatic, and should be used sparingly. Articles should rarely, if ever, consist solely of such paragraphs.

Headings:

Headings help clarify articles and create a structure shown in the table of contents. Headers should not be blue linked. This is because headers in themselves introduce information and let the reader know what will be talked about, similar to signposting in argumentation theory; blue links should be incorporated in the text of the section.

Size:

Articles themselves should be kept relatively short. Say what needs saying, but do not overdo it. Articles should aim to be less than 30KB worth of prose. When articles grow past this amount of readable text, they can be broken up into smaller articles to improve readability and ease of editing. The headed sub-section should be retained, with a concise version of what has been removed under an italicized header.

When an article is long and has many sub articles, try to balance the main page. Do not put overdue weight into one part of an article at the cost of other parts. In shorter articles, if one subtopic has much more text than another subtopic, that may be an indication that that subtopic should have its own page, with only a summary presented on the main page.

Summary style:

Summary style is an organizational style that is similar to news style except that it applies to topics instead of articles and mostly lead sections instead of lead sentences.

There are two main reasons for using Summary style in HiPakistan articles. One is that different readers desire different levels of details: some readers need just a quick summary and are satisfied by the lead section; more people need a moderate amount of info, and will find the article suitable to their needs; yet others need a lot of detail, and will be interested in reading the sub articles. The other reason is simply that an article that is too long becomes tedious to read, and might repeat itself or represent writing that could be more concise.

Write every day:

Forming a daily writing habit is essential in being able to write as freely as you sleep and breathe. Start with just 15 minutes set aside each day to write, and extend this as you strengthen the habit. It really is the single most powerful habit you can adopt for your creative writing.

Recognize your strengths:

It’s easy for us to overlook our own abilities and strengths, simply because we live with ourselves day in and day out. Make a list of all your creative strengths, and then ask what a close friend of yours would say if they were asked what your creative strengths were. You’ll be amazed at how much you can come up with.

The Trend:

Trends aren’t just for fashion! Whenever a trend sweeps a certain profession, you’ll suddenly see dozens of articles covering the topic. From the latest hairstyle to the latest tax shelter, people want to know all about these trends – their origins, benefits, and drawbacks.

Here are some more tips for writing a good article.

Use the occasional exclamation mark (!) to get your readers attention. But please do not over use this as many people now appear to be doing.

Use bullets to quickly outline a number of points that may be important in your article. Readers can scan through these.

Outline the benefits to your reader. They want to know what they can get out of reading the article so portray the benefits of what you are writing about.

Target your article. Make it on one topic only and stick to the topic. Do not try to write about 2 or 3 things in the same article. Keep your focus on one topic to keep the interest of your reader.

Use lots of white space. People like to read in ‘chunks’ of information so has lots of space in your background.

Do not waffle. This is never more important than on the internet. People get bored quickly and there are a million other articles they could be reading instead of yours. Get to the point quickly – in the very 1ST line!

Be humble. People admire people who are humble. Do not talk down to your readers.

There are very things as much fun as watching your favorite genre of online videosm.

Sounds strange? I agree. But without any of the fanfare that accompanied other online technologies and applications, online videos have altered the way that we live. It has made everyone of us a media mogul. A mogul of the kind that does not make too much money unfortunately.

Watch something funny? What do you do? Simple, record it in your video camera and post it online.

Many people perform the most hilarious stunts for dorm-mates. Why restrict your responsibly humorous act to dorm mates? Why not share it with the rest of the world? Of course several of these matters become a subject of taste. For instance, I know of a lot of people who create videos where they depict themselves setting fire to expelled body gas.

And that is how the viral effect of the Internet works, some people savour such delights. Others find them taste-less, though they are still unclear about whether to classify these videos as odor-less too. There, you saw my feeble attempt at humor.

So you create funny videos and post them on your site. Or you could post them on one of the many sites out there that allow free uploads as well as downloads. Some such sites have actually started offering monetary rewards. These are usually in the form of compensation based on the number of people who view the video.

Get ridiculous, shoot, upload. That is it. That is not the end of the story. Indeed it is just the beginning. If you really want the video to become famous, you will have to make it famous. Promoting it decently at many online venues is a good choice. At the very least you can forward the links to your friends and family.

That does not mean that everyone is a producer. While all of you generous producers make this stuff, I am the consumer. In fact, I cannot help but watch a video or two at sites that have a video section. I am usually interested in top rated videos and editor’s choices.

Candid and staged are the two genres of comedies. I enjoy both kinds, though I tend to be partial to the former. One of my favorites is serious videos, e.g., tutorials, news videos and the like, that go wrong.

For instance, I just finished watching a video where the newsreader rapidly recovered from using the preposition “off” instead of “up” when referring to “power companies are planning to jack up your electricity bill.’ I watched it again and again. Then I let it be known to all my friends.

Stereo Nation MP3 is born. Taz is an Asian born in Britain and was raised in Warwickshire UK. When his debut album, “Hit the Deck”, was released a recording artist was how he was established. With this album, he stayed at the number 1 position on the UK Asian pop charts for almost thirty six weeks. Of all the Asian fusion releases, this album has been one of the greatest and most famous of all times.

It was at the turn of the millennium that Taz started his own band called the “Stereo Nation”. This band set forth a new avenue in the musical territory and experimented with RNB, Soul, Dance & Bollywood.

Stereo Nation was then signing to EMI Premier UK. Their first hit on the British chart, “I’ve Been Waiting” came as a result of this with the track becoming very popular in Asia as well. One of the tracks, “The Box” was rated among the top ten videos on the UK music channel. This album, “I’ve Been Waiting” brought a lot of popularity to Taz making Stereo Nation well known throughout the world.

Throughout 1998, the ten members band toured all over Europe, India, the Far East, Australia, UAE, Africa, USA, South East Asia and Canada. Stereo Nation was well established by then and signed a recording deal with Times Music India. This brought about the release of the album, “Jambo” throughout the world. This album was a smashing hit with great review and sales all over the world, especially in the Asian subcontinent.

Stereo Nation’s second album called “Slave II Fusion” was released in December 2000. Approximately 120,000 units of this album were sold in the U.K/U.S.A regions. In India, 1,400,000 units were sold. After the success of this album, Stereo Nation was approached by the Bollywood Film Industry to record and visualize a track for the film, Tum Bin. In the year 2001, this film was one of the biggest hits and achieved the Top Ten position in the U.K mainstream film cinemas. It was also one of Bollywood’s biggest films in that year. This track in Tum Bin brought fame to Taz who then received a number of offers for recording of soundtracks in the Indian Film Industry. With all this and much more, Stereo Nation and its founder Taz gained a lot of popularity. The smashing hit, “Carolina” is one of the all time favourites.

All of the tracks released by Stereo Nation have come out to in the MP3 format. The MP3 format makes use of an algorithm that is lossy compressed. It is designed in this way to reduce greatly the amount of data needed to portray the audio recording, and still continue to sound like a genuine reproduction of the original audio that is uncompressed. MP3 is a format that is specific to the audio. When it is compressed, certain parts of sound are removed which are outside the range that most people can hear.

Stereo Nation MP3s are now widely available and can be downloaded from the internet.

Thanaseelan asked:

Okay fingers up, how many of you have seen this movie? May not be a blockbuster or a box office hit hindi movie but it is definitely worth a watch. Perhaps more than once. Why? Just imagine, Sanjay Dutt tackling his enemy by following the principles of Mahatma Gandhi. For the uninitiated, he is a beefcaked bollywood actor with a really mean mafia look who looks like a former Brisbane Lions regular player. I was refering to the former of course.

This is definitely one of my favourite movies as the story, screenplay and entertainment factors are brought up very well. This movie goes down as one of the most meaningful movies in Indian film industry. The essence of the movie is about applying the teachings of Gandhi in today’s world and downright hilariousness is ensured from the pairing of Arshad Warsi and Sanjay Dutt. Hahaha… watch it. No seriously… watch it.

Story:

This is the second installment to the Munnabhai MBBS movie series. The kind hearted don, Munnabhai (played by Sanjay Dutt), researches day and night on Mahatma Gandhi in order to impress the lady of his dreams and that is when Gandhi appears in front of him either as a soul or a figment of Munnabhai’s hallucination. An adventure then starts in a meaningful way for him where he learns how to deal with people and their problems by applying Gandhi’s principles.

Screenplay:

Perhaps the sole challenge of the movie is the application of Gandhi’s philosophy to solve today’s people related problems and it is carried out so well in the movie. The comic timing of Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi is flawless. Boman Irani, in his typical fashion of doing something different in each movie, contributes further to the comedy by portraying a very stereotypical image of a Sardar. Even though the comedy does justice to the entertainment factor on a high scale, it does not deviate from the central theme and is able to deliver all the messages beautifully.

Cinematography:

Cinematography is done fairly well according to a typical Indian movie standard.

Video Editing:

There is not much video editing for the movie since there is no need for it. It is mainly focused in songs, especially in the Pal Pal song sang by Bollywood melody queen, Shreya Ghoshal.
